Team Behind Commonwealth Pain & Spine and Woodward Development & Construction announce groundbreaking of new surgery center

New facility will increase access to high-quality, affordable outpatient surgical services for Evansville and the surrounding community.

The team behind Commonwealth Pain & Spine (Commonwealth) is pleased to announce a development partnership with Woodward Development & Construction (Woodward) to open the first of many state-of-the-art, convenient, and patient-centered ambulatory surgical centers (ASC). The ASC will be located at 6016 E Columbia Street adjacent to the existing Commonwealth Pain & Spine Evansville East office on Kimber Lane.

“This new ASC will help us better meet the needs of our surgical patients with a facility and environment that is designed specifically for outpatient procedures,” said Nicolaus Winters, MD, who has practiced with Commonwealth for 10 years. “We are excited to begin this project and have a surgery center that improves access to safe, quality care.”

With sitework underway, the construction of the ASC will begin in spring of 2024. The nearly 10,000 square foot building will contain two surgical suites, and the project is expected to open in early 2025 for surgical services and procedures.

“As developers deeply invested in Evansville’s future, we are thrilled to partner with this team,” said Woodward CEO and Managing Broker Evan Beck. “This investment underscores our commitment to the region's growth and development, offering not just advanced healthcare options but also signaling a promising future for the community.”

Outpatient surgery centers are often a preference for patients, providing affordable care without compromising on high-quality. When completed, the facility will enable patients and practitioners to access local, comprehensive, and centralized care.

“Surgery centers offer a seamless journey for patients, characterized by their smaller scale, ease of access, and exclusive focus on outpatient procedures,” said Janet Carlson, Executive Director of ASCs for Commonwealth. “This will be a one-stop shop with many patient-focused enhancements and the latest surgical technology.”
